These days apple cider vinegar has been deemed a very useful health tonic. Nowadays, what once used to be considered apple cider vinegar folk remedies are now supported by scientific research revealing its curative effects. The main ingredient of apple cider vinegar or other vinegars is acetic acid. Vinegars also contain other acids, vitamins, mineral salts and amino acids. Vinegar is produced through fermentation by which sugars in food are digested by bacteria in yeast. In the second phase of fermentation the alcohol ferments again and we have vinegar. A study conducted in 2006 concluded that apple cider vinegar could lower cholesterol levels. The study however was performed on rats, so it is not conclusive as to whether this effect would be exhibited in people in a similar way. Another study conducted in rats showed a connection between consuming vinegar and combating high blood pressure.
A couple of lab studies have shown that apple cider vinegar does kill cancer cells or inhibits their growth. Studies done with humans have unreliable results. From one example, consuming vinegar is associated with decreasing the risk of esophageal cancer, while it is associated with increasing the risk of bladder cancer.
Apple cider vinegar may be an inexpensive diet supplement. Studies have stated that adding vinegar to your food intake supports a feeling of fullness. Appetite control can be a useful tool for those who are obese or are approaching obesity.
